Meet Marzia Prince: Fitness Model and Entrepreneur
Before we start this inspiring interview, let me just share with you how I met Marzia. We have known each other for several years and competed as IFBB Bikini Pro’s together. We met backstage at one of our fitness competitions and we made our pro debuts together. She has always been someone that has inspired me (you’ll read below why:)). Every time we have hung out, she has always been so full of positive energy. She’s one of those women that when you leave her side, you feel so good and empowered. She not only is confident, but she also genuinely makes your feel great about yourself too. When we started #WEW, we really wanted to feature women who are entrepreneurs and/or go getters that have amazing stories and Marzia embodies all of the above!
We welcome you Marzia Prince ……….
I see that you’re a busy lady and I love following you on social media and watch you succeed. You’re a spokesmodel for SunWarrior, you have a personal training business, and are a ItWorks distributor(and a very successful one at that). So first, how do you fit it all in your schedule? Do you have any tricks with time management?
I love to live a full life! I am blessed that my passion for health and fitness is my business. To manage my busy schedule, I have to life by my calendar to get it all done. My tips to being organized and getting it all done is to schedule as you go, don’t wait. Procrastinating will get you nowhere. Also, color code your calendar to see how productive you are. Between all my different work activities, it is nice to see what I mainly have that upcoming week to prepare myself.
Who or what inspires you to do what you do?
So many things inspire me in life. It really depends on the moment. It can be a book. A client of mine. My husband. A leadership retreat. I constantly find ways to stay motivated in life. Through my ways of motivation, I always find inspiration. I thrive off of personal development. I work on myself every day. My biggest project is myself. I always want to be a better version of myself each day.
Was there ever a time while you were working to accomplish your goals that you wanted to quit?
Ha! Yes, too many times to count. I have come to accept failure as my teacher. When failure happens, it’s so frustrating. I think everyone goes through many different emotions. But the older I get, I am learning patience. I learn with each mistake, I learn to problem solve to get better for next time. I think “wanting to quit” when things get hard is easy. But wanting to stay and work shows you that you can be strong. I have learned not to be a quitter in what I do. Passion drives me to stay.
You competed as an IFBB Bikini Pro for a few years, how did you get into that?
It all started after I entered my first competition in 2007. I entered the Ms Bikini Universe pageant when I was 32 just for fun and had the most AH-MAZING experience. I couldn’t believe I won. It was such a learning curve for me. Even though it was my first competition, I fell in love with the process behind the scenes-working out and eating clean. I had the competition bug to compete more. I wanted to take my training to the next level. In 2008, I won the FAME Bikini Championships and craved more. In 2009, NPC came out with a bikini category because they saw how the Bikini girls were taking the fitness industry by storm in magazines and tradeshows. I was blessed to be one of them. I was signed with Gaspari Nutrition at the time and they only wanted a team of IFBB Pros that were signed with the company. So when NPC came out with IFBB bikini, I was the 3rd IFBB bikini pro. I couldn’t believe I got my pro card at 35 years old. I have always been a late bloomer, who knows, I may compete again. Every now and then, I crave to do it one more time. I am 41 now, and I think it is never too late to compete. I recently saw a few 55 year old women compete and look AH-MAZING on stage. It always inspires me!
How did you get into Veganism? Was it easy in the beginning?
I had no idea Veganism existed back in the day. I know more about vegetarian diets, than the word vegan itself. I had major health issues to my body due to the 5 years of animal based competition dieting. It was so hard on my body, it ruined my metabolism. I had kidney stones, gained 25 lbs, broke out in cystic acne, adrenal fatigue, and more. I was going downhill fast. What I used to think was healthy to eat, was actually not. It was ruining my health every time I ate. Finally, a registered dietician recommended I do a vegan diet to cleanse my body. I was hesitant, But tried it. I started feeling amazing. Then it motivated me to keep going. I started reading about vegan bodybuilding and reached out to Robert Cheeke and he helped me with my diet so I was getting my best nutrition while training with weights. It was a whole learning process. Now after 5 years, I see that there is a plant-based certification. I want to take that to add to my resume along with my own personal experience to inspire people to eat healthier.
I love that you have a balanced approach to health and fitness. What is your go to meal and what is the number 1 tip/advice you recommend for exercise?
Simple. Make it fun. I used to be strict and aggressive with my nutrition and workout schedule that it was no longer fun. I was burnt out. It was too routine. I started trying new things and making it fun, new recipes and new exercises. I fell in love with food and fitness again. I always tell my clients to try new things to make that part of their life fun so they can look forward to it instead of dread it. Lately my new favorite way to workout is TRX and boxing.
When do you feel most beautiful?
Right after I work out. I know that I look all sweaty, but there is somet
hing about exercise that the endorphins flood my body and I feel strong and accomplished.I crave that feeling after each workout. So empowering!
You always look so natural and beautiful. What are your top 3 makeup or beauty must haves?
Aww! Thank you. I credit a lot of my beauty must haves to holistic lifestyle.
My first beauty weapon is an organic plant-based diet. I like to eat fresh salads, green juices, fruit smoothies, and fresh fruit and veggies. You get so many vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and it hydrates the cells. I try to eat about 70-80% of my diet raw.
Coconut oil! I use it for everything. I have bottles in my kitchen and in my bathroom. I eat it, cook with it, wear it as lotion, and oil pull. There are so many great benefits from coconut oil.
I like to wear a mineral-based make up. I look for vegan, cruelty-free make up or beauty products that doesn’t have a ton of toxic chemicals. If it goes on my skin everyday (which is the largest organ of the body), I make sure it is good for my body. I don’t want to clog my body full of toxins everyday via make up and beauty products. My top favorite brands are Jane Iredale, 100 Percent Pure, and Pacifica Make up. I recently learned about Pacifica from you guys, so thank you!
