How I lost 7 pounds -Part 1 (nutrition)
Last September I was contacted by my Bodybuilding.com manager to shoot for some content on the website (bodybuilding.com). It had been a while since I last did a “fitness” type shoot which meant I would most likely wear a sports bra. EEEk!!
She threw a few date options out there and of course I went with the later time so I had plenty of time to get ready for it. I had 8 weeks. It made me nervous but I was excited at the same time. It had been a long time ( a few years) that I trained for something in specific. The last few years I just focused on getting used to living a balanced fitness lifestyle.
I traveled so much last summer going to Denver, Cancun, and a two week Euro trip that it was exactly what I needed before the holidays arrived.
In the past, when I trained for something specific, I pretty much said goodbye to my social life. I lived in the gym and didn’t go out because I was afraid of all the food temptation.
I made it a point to have a social life. I made healthy decisions but I also allowed myself to enjoy foods I loved but in moderation. I’ve practiced this since and have only gained 2 pounds since that photo shoot.
They say abs are made in the kitchen so let me share some of the things I ate and/or supplemented with. Things that I did cut out were alcohol (I’m not a big drinker anyway, I’d rather eat my calories), cheese, and Flaming Hot Cheetos (the hardest part).
Protein Powder & Bar:
Because we have a huge love for Ben & Jerry’s Cinnamon Bun Ice cream, we had to swap that for healthier options.
I love the Combat Protein Powder by MusclePharm. It’s also currently half off!!!
Tastes amazing with Almond milk and Ice. Comment below if you’d like to see some smoothie recipes of mine. Shop Here
Hands down I have been loving the Combat Crunch Bars by MusclePharm. I get the Cinnamon Twist flavor and keep it as an emergency in my purse.
You can get them here and they’re currently Bogo 50% off!!
Irwin Naturals Women’s Living Green Liquid-Get Multivitamin– I like these multivitamins because there’s no weird aftertaste.
Irwin Naturals Ginkgo Smart– Natural Support For Memory, Mental Clarity, Concentration, And Focus!*
My Typical sGrocery List
Pink Lady apples (these are my life with Justin’s Vanilla Peanut Butter individual packets)
Sambazon Acai Mix ( I use this for my acai bowls.)
Bananas (Once these are ripe, I peel them, put them in a ziplock bag, and freeze them)
lemon & lime- for my waters and sometimes salads.
Spinach Romaine lettuce
Baby Carrots (great for snacking with hummus)
Cucumber ( also great for snacking with hummus)
Fish & Poultry:
Tuna Packets (great for those days when you’re on the run)
Hormone and antibiotic free chicken for grilling ( we usually get ours at Sam’s Club or Costco since we make so much at one time I did a video on it before watch “here.”
Ok so I really don’t do dairy. Every once in a while I’ll have half n half from coffee shops or if I run out of my coconut milk creamer.
So Delicious Coconut Milk Creamer- I’m obsessed with this creamer.
I use this in my coffee the days I don’t drink my Amino Energy.
Almond Milk- I use this in my smoothies. It’s actually the only type of milk I like. I don’t like cow’s milk.
Cage Free Eggs- I get this in bulk at Sam’s. We literally eat eggs all day at a minimum of a twice a day. Eggs are our liiiiiiife!!
Sweet potatoes- I love mashing it and using my coconut spread with this
Red potatoes – I love these little potatoes with my eggs in the mornings.
Brown Rice or Jasmine rice- Love this in a bowl with diced chicken and tons of veggies. Usually I do the white rice if it’s after a workout for fast digesting carbs (helps with muscle recovery).
Silver Hills The Big 16 Bread- the only bread I eat at home. So yummy and doesn’t take like others. I love this with my coconut spread alone of with sugar and cinnamon.
Other grocery items:
Earth Balance Coconut & Peanut Spread- Can you tell I have an obsession with coconut? haha This is yummy with apples. I also like getting the individual packets.
Justin’s Honey Peanut butter – I get the individual packets of this as well.
I still go out to dinners with my husband and/or friends. I allow myself to eat the things I really want but usually share my meal since restaurants usually carry big portions. If not, I’ll get a big juicy salad! I love eating salads. People think I’m crazy sometimes when I go to restaurants and just want salad as my entree when the restaurant is known for other foods.
I’m grateful that we also eat from our restaurant Simply Fit Meals. When I don’t have food prepared, I eat this because it’s healthy and convenient.
One thing I have done different than I have in the past, is eat different foods everyday. I have a variety. I didn’t want my body to get used to one thing that when I introduced new foods, I gained a ton of water weight.
Example of my food plan (I didn’t do this daily)
-First thing when I wake up is drink lemon water ( I’m not as consistent lately but this is a great reminder)
Pre workout– Before the gym, I drink my Amino Energy (my favorite is watermelon and blueberry mojito) and have a slice of my Runners 16 bread with my coconut spread. (I usually eat this the days I’m lifting. I do cardio on an empty stomach with Amino Energy or I will throw up)
Breakfast: 1 whole egg with 3 egg whites ( I usually have it fried with coconut oil spray) and an acai bowl or a breakfast smoothie with greens. I take my vitamins with this and chug a bottled water.
Snack: when I’m at work is when I usually snack. That’s when I’ll have some of my carrots and hummus or my Combat bar.
Lunch: Simply Fit Meals ( my current favorites are the Primal BBQ Mushroom Burger and the Beef Tenderloin Tips) or a diced chicken bowl with sweet potatoes and green veggies.
Dinner: If I get a chance, Ill snack again before dinner but usually I don’t get to being so busy with clients. Grilled chicken salad. My hubby makes the best grilled chicken!!!! I get a big bowl of romaine, tomatoes, avocado, onions, boiled egg, and lemon dressing.
That’s it for now my loves! Once I start filming fitness videos, I’ll add the part 2! Until next time
