How Do You Find an Accountability Partner?
I talk soo much about accountability partners on Social Media and people have been asking how I’ve found mine. So what is an accountability partner?
From Wikipedia: An accountability partner is a person who coaches another person in terms of helping the other person keep a commitment.. So how do you find one and what does it entail?
–Find someone that inspires you that you know follows through with their goals. Ask them to be your accountability partner and set goals together.
I have two types of accountability partners; a business accountability partner and fitness accountability partner. Not everyone needs one to be successful. Some people have so much self discipline that they don’t need one to follow through. I’ve gone through times in my life where I had sooo much self motivation that I followed through with my goals and then other times where I needed someone to hold me accountable.
I just ask certain friends if they want to join me on a fitness challenge or a race. I also have other successful women that I like to talk about professional goals with that it motivates me to follow through with it. Like the saying “Surround yourself with successful people and you will then start finding success.” Because when others talk about their success, there’s a sense of competitiveness that makes us want to be successful as well.
Lisa is a great example of one of my business accountability partners. We knew that starting Beautyfix.io would be a little more challenging because of the fact that we live in different cities. Because of that, we always make it a point to have two phone calls a week specifically talking about Beautyfix.io. We communicate all day everyday via text but when we have these phone calls, we prepare for them and specifically talk business. We give each other homework at the beginning of the week, then we talk about it over the phone and reflect on it mid week. Having these phone calls helps us stay accountable with accomplishing our goals for the blog. If we didn’t, I’m not sure BeautyFix.io would have been born.
When it comes to fitness, I have several accountability partners so there is no excuse for me. I have a couple girlfriends that I work out with in the morning. If we tell each other we are meeting at a certain time in the morning, we show up. The more you start doing this, the easier it is to start holding your own self accountable. Once you start doing something regularly, it becomes a habit that you won’t have to rely on that other person. I show up to the gym on my own now but it’s always nice having someone there to hold you accountable on the days where you want to hit snooze all morning.
I also have friends in different cities that hold me accountable when we sign up for a fitness challenge together. We text each other everyday, we encourage one another, and send each other playlists to keep us pumped for our workouts.
Don’t forget that if you want someone to be a good accountability partner for you, be a good one for them. Team work makes the dream work!
So grab a girlfriend, set some goals together, and stay connected!
